The Night Circus | Erin Morgenstern - Book Review

Rating: ✹✹✹✹✹ - LOVED IT!

'The Night Circus' is about a mysterious circus that is only open when the sun sets. Entwined with it are the lives of many circus performers and patrons of the circus, all bound to it in every way.

The blurb reads:

"The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not"

I had been wanting to read this book for ages, and now I have, AND I LOVED IT! This book spans from the years 1873 to 1903 and then in the present day, going back and forth in years, so it may be a little difficult to follow for some younger readers, but I found it easy to follow.

I would recommend this book to anyone 14+ as it does have a few sensitive scenes involved.

I wasn't quite sure what to think when I started reading this book, as I didn't read any reviews about it first hand, but I knew I wanted to read it, and I am so glad that I did! This book is the perfect mix of magic, fantasy, reality, love and loss, and can also be seen as a coming of age story.

The narrative mainly follows the characters Celia Bowen and Marco Alisdair, although there are a few other characters whose story's we follow.

The book starts off in mystery and continues this throughout the book, keeping me always wanting to read more. Some of the mysteries you do not find out until the end of the book, but there is enough drama and illusion to fill up that longing for answers.

The characters are really well written and I fell i love with all of then instantly. We also get to see the characters grow up; as this novel spans across 30 years, so I really feel as if we get to see their characters progress and develop.

I would love to say more about this book but I don't want to spoil it for anyone who may read it! It is such a lovely and enchanting book and really captured my heart and made me feel for the characters involved, definitely one of my new favourites! There are many twists and turns and yes, magic is involved!

If any of you lovely people have read The Night Circus, leave a comment and let me know what you thought of it!

Love, K :)
