85 Mile Charity Walk For Kent Air Ambulance & Kent Fire Fighters Charity

Thursday, 28 April 2016

On Tuesday the 26th and Wednesday the 27th of April, myself and five other people embarked on an 85 mile charity walk for the Kent Air Ambulance and the Kent Fire Fighters charity! It was very difficult and challenged us all in many different ways, but we managed to do it! We aimed to stop at every ambulance and fire station along the way, but because we were lacking in time, unfortunately we didn't visit every one we wanted to :(

The person who organised this walk is my best friend Vicky, (pictured in the black jumper in the picture below) and she is only just recovering from a car crash. She damaged her spine and had broken one of her legs, and only a few days ago got feeling back in that leg! Vicky split her time  between using crutches and a wheelchair on this walk, and was usually in front of us on this walk! I am super proud of her and she is such an inspiration to me and many people with whom she works with, and she also is a 999 dispatcher and volunteers for the Red Cross and many other different charities! GO BEST FRIEND!

DAY ONE

Outside a local Ambulance station
We set off on our adventure from Margate Fire Station at 4;40am on Tuesday the 27th of April. It was cold and we were all super tired from waking up so early, but we didn't complain! After stopping at our first fire and ambulance checkpoint at around 6ish, we grabbed a McDonalds breakfast and had a quick rest. Everyone was glad to have some warm food in their bellies, as it was still very cold and we hadn't eaten anything that morning. We then moved on to Ramsgate, Sandwich, Deal and Dover. I have to say, my feet were hurting by the time we arrived in Sandwich, but everyone was trudging on with walking, and so I followed! When we arrived in Deal, we stopped at the local fire station and the crew there lat us come in for a tea and some biscuits! They showed us round their station and chatted to us about what they do and answered any questions we had; it was really interesting to see what it's like inside a fire station and to know what their day involves and what happens when they are needed for a call.Whilst in Deal, it started to rain, which wasn't the best weather we had hoped for for walking in! Luckily we brought some umbrellas with us, and most of us had hoods so we were slightly sheltered from the rain! The route through Deal and into Dover was right by the sea, so the views were lovely to look and and helped pass the time.

So exhausted!
Our next stop was our final stop for the day; Aylesham. The fire crew there kindly let us stay there the night and gave us mattresses to sleep on and bought us all food! They were absolute angels! They made us feel so at home and were so warm and welcoming; they also gave us £100 to put towards our fundraising! THEY WERE SO LOVELY! After we had settled in for the night we laid down or mattresses and went to sleep, but at around midnight, the fire crew got a call out and all of the lights came on and the sirens went off! They were at the station in minutes and left in almost seconds! Luckily they did tell us what would happen if they got a call out in the middle of the night, so everyone wasn't scared or surprised as to what was happening. Seeing them go off on a call so quickly was insane to witness, but also comforting to know that they get ready and are out of the station so quickly!

DAY TWO

Fundraisers & Fire Crew
We started a little later this morning, mainly because we had less mileage to travel today. We left and said our farewells to the Aylesham Fire Crew at about 7am and headed towards Canterbury. The Canterbury Fire Station was HUGE compared to the others we had visited and was the first fire station to have a fire pole, so of course we all wanted to have a go on it! After Canterbury we made our way to Chilham and Wye. Our last stop was the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford and we were greeted by family members and friends! Afterwards, we popped into Ashford Fire Station for a cup of tea and some biscuits. They were so lovely and welcoming! Just as we were having our pictures taken, they got a call out, but thankfully we needed to leave anyway, so the whole fire crew were out the door in seconds!

It was so nice to meet some many passionate and caring people on this 85 mile journey. We have met fire crews, ambulance crews and members of the public who were loving what we were doing, and it was great to raise money for two incredible charities!

I vlogged the whole journey as well!

Earth Day 2016

Friday, 22 April 2016

Today is Earth Day! It's a day which I think should be celebrated more, as some people are still unaware that it even exists. I choose to celebrate Earth Day because I love our beautiful, fascinating, and complex world, and want to make it better for many generations to come.

My WWF picture for Earth Day
This year I'm celebrating Earth Day with WWF (World Wildlife Fund) as they have partnered with Apple and the App Store to help raise funds for global wildlife, marine and environmental conservation! You can read the 'Apps For Earth' blog post here for more information about the cause!

I love our world, and truly want to do something to help. In October 2015 I went to India on a conservation volunteer trip to help local wildlife (a blog post will be up soon! I promise). I am looking forward to doing many things like this and doing some local volunteering to help wildlife and conservation!

A few great ways to help our planet (without going to India) is to organize a beach clean-up, re-cycle, cycle more instead of using a car, picking up litter from the ground, the list is endless! Earth Day isn't just a day to think about how we treat our planet, it's a day to make a change, to do something about the many problems facing our world.

You can find the official Earth day website here and the website for the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) here :) On both of these websites are many ways to get involved in saving the environment and our wildlife! Whether it's signing a petition, raising money, raising awareness or doing something directly with the WWF, there are tonnes of ways to help!

I hope you have chosen to do something great this Earth Day, and plan to do something not only on Earth Day for this world, but everyday, because together, anything is possible!

I'm A PuraVida Rep + 20% Discount!

Saturday, 16 April 2016

I'm so delighted to say that I am now a representative for PuraVida! I LOVE this brand and have been buying from them for quite some time now, and when I heard that they were looking for Rep's, I knew I just had to apply, and luckily I was chosen! PuraVida specialize in handmade bracelets from Costa-Rica and when you buy products from their site you're also helping to give, support and provide local Costa-Rican artisans with full time jobs! So it's a win-win!

PuraVida sell many different bracelet ranges/collections, such as the braided bracelets, track beads, charms, bitty charms, flat braided, anchor wraps, platinum, studded, beaded, anklets and so many other cool accessories! But I think my favourite bracelet range that PV do is their charity bracelet range!

I have four charity bracelets and I plan to get LOADS more as they are super cute and are affordable and $1 of the profits made are donated to whatever charity the bracelet is for!

'She's the First' charity bracelet
This is my latest charity bracelet that I bought and it supports the charity 'She's The First'. 'She’s the First' provides scholarships to girls in low-income countries who will be the first in their families to graduate from high school. It's a known fact that when you educate a girl, you can lift an entire family and community out of poverty. $1 of the bracelet will be donated to 'She's the First' charity! PV have LOADS of charity bracelets available that support many different charities from military/service charities, women's causes, environmental charities, children's charities and many, many more! This is one of the many reasons why I love PV so much; they actually give back to people and charities who need it the most! The other charity bracelets I have are Water Hope, Save the Chimps and Wolf Sanctuary!

Here is a Youtube video I made when I became a Rep!

I really hope you all can help me support this brand, as it's one that I love! You guys can also use my personalized rep code for a 20% discount!

'Apps For Earth' With WWF & The App Store | The Global Goals: 14 & 15

Friday, 15 April 2016

I'm sure a few of you have seen the latest update to the app store over the past few hours? That's right! Apple/The App Store have partnered with WWF (World Wildlife Fund) and  participating apps to raise awareness and raise money for this amazing charity! App users can contribute to the cause simply by downloading an app or by 'in-app' purchases, specifically for the WWF. This event is lasting until the 24th of April and 100% of the proceeds from participating apps and 'in-app' purchases support WWF's vital global conservation work!

If you guys have read my Global Goals blog post (you can read it here, if you are interested) you will know that I am supporting Goal 14 (Life below Water) and Goal 15 (Life on Land) and with the WWF and the App Store, we can contribute to these goals and charities! I have already made some 'in-app' purchases on my favourite games that are participating with this cause, and you can too! Here are a list of some of the apps that are participating:

  • WWF Together
  • Angry Birds 2
  • Candy Crush Soda Saga
  • Hay Day
  • Jurassic World: The Game
  • Kendall & Kylie
  • LINE
  • MARVEL Contest of Champions
  • Star Wars: Galaxy Of Heroes
  • SimCity BuildIt
  • VSCO
  • Yoga Studio

There are a lot more apps that are participating; did you see any of your favourite apps in that list? If so, why not buy an exclusive item within the app and support this amazing charity and help wildlife conservation around the world!

With all of this happening, it is also good to mention that this even ends a few days after Earth Day! Earth day is celebrated on the 22nd on April, but that will be a whole other blog post, but I hope you all can celebrate it with me!

Let's change the world, one app at a time.

Lush 'Brazened Honey' Face Mask | Beauty Review

Wednesday, 6 April 2016

The 'Brazened Honey' face mask is the newest edition to my collection of Lush face masks, and when I bought it on my Lush haul no too long ago (you can watch the video here) I couldn't wait to try it out! The story of this face mask is quite similar to the 'Love Lettuce' face mask, as I bought them both at the same time. I wanted to find a face mask with a similar exfoliating property as the 'Don't Look At Me' face mask (you can read the review for that here) and I was shown this face mask as well as the 'Love Lettuce' face mask (you can read the review for that here).

My initial first reaction to this face mask whilst still in the shop, was that it's smell wasn't that appealing, but I was sure that it would do it's job perfectly fine and decided to purchase it!

This face mask includes Kaolin, which is a clay to help absorb oil and helps to cleanse and exfoliate, Fresh Organic Lime Juice, which help scrub away dead skin cells and has antibiotic and antioxidant properties from the large amounts of vitamin C it contains, Fresh Organic Free Range Eggs, which contain many vitamins, but more specifically vitamin A to help maintain healthy skin by regulating sebum production, Honey for it's antiseptic qualities, Ground Almond Shells for exfoliating, Almond Oil for it's vitamin E, Fresh Ginger Root for it's anti-inflammatory properties, Clove Bud Oil and Ginger Oil. Phew! So many great ingredients with so many properties!

When applying this mask, I like to make sure that I have removed all of my make-up before hand, wither with a wipe or with a cotton pad. I then begin to smooth the mask on my face, making sure to avoid any sensitive area's like my mouth and my eyes. The first thing I noticed with this mask is that it is very easy to paste on; while face masks like 'Love Lettuce' and 'Don;t Look At Me' have large exfoliants and other ingredients in them, which make them just a little bit harder to smother round the face.

With other face masks, I normally leave the mask for about 15-20 minutes (I did this with the 'Don't Look At Me' face mask, but didn't with 'Love Lettuce') but found that this face mask doesn't take that long before it starts to dry and crack, which I guess is a good thing if you are in a bit of a hurry. Within 10 minutes this mask was ready to be washed off! For washing the mask off, I like to wet my hands with warm water and begin to make the mask moist enough to begin to exfoliate my skin. With the mask now back into liquid-ish state, I work the mask round in circles to really take advantage of the ground almond shells that this mask uses for its exfoliant. After I've had a little scrub, I then begin to wash off the mask.

When I finished, I patted my face dry and saw that the mask left some redness on my skin (I don't think it was the mask, as I normally has patches of red on my skin after a shower), so the mask unfortunately didn't tackle my red face, and did make my face feel a bit tight afterwards, but my skin was left feeling soothed and cleansed!

I have found that the product does dry out/lose it's moistness in it's pot quite quickly, so depending on how often you use this product, you might find it not as spreadable as it once was!

So whilst this probably wasn't the best face mask I've used, it did do a good job and would probably work best for a normal skin type, as I have quite oily skin.

It's also good to know that all of Lush's products are 100% vegetarian and some of it's products are suitable for vegans (but not this one unfortunately; it contains eggs) and that Lush are against testing thier products on animals! So, you really know that you are doing good when you purchase from Lush, which s a super duper added bonus!

Let me know what you thought of this face mask and this review in the comments!

Love, K :)
